Partnerships with Professional Schools

Providence College has established partnerships and articulation agreements with esteemed professional schools in the health field. These agreements are established to benefit Providence College students and alumni in their pursuit of graduate education. 

The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University Early Identification Program (EIP)

The Early Identification Program (EIP) is a cooperative venture between The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and Providence College. This program provides selected high-achieving Rhode Island resident students early provisional admission to the medical school following the student’s graduation from Providence College. The purpose of the EIP program is to increase the opportunities for a career in medicine to residents of the state of Rhode Island.

Providence College students from Rhode Island interested in nomination for the Brown University EIP program should notify the Health Professions Advisor during their sophomore year. Eligible students are reviewed and invitations to apply for the Early Identification Program are granted by the Health Professions Advisory Committee.

Acceptances are offered by The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.

New England College of Optometry – Combined Degree 3+4

This program provides a unique educational opportunity for the highly motivated student with a professional goal in optometry. It allows for completion of the B.A. or B.S. degree in biology at Providence College (3 years) and the O.D. (Doctor of Optometry) degree at New England College of Optometry (4 years) in seven years rather than the usual eight. The 3+4 pathway is contingent upon acceptance to New England College of Optometry in the student’s junior year at Providence College.

Upon successful completion of the O.D. degree at New England College of Optometry, students will be awarded a B.S. or B.A. degree from Providence College.  

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.3 or higher
  • Science/math undergraduate GPA of 3.2 or higher
  • Optometry Admissions Test (OAT) score of 320 (with no sub score below 290) or higher
  • Optometry shadowing experience

Johnson & Wales University Center for Physician Assistant Studies

The articulation agreement between Providence College and Johnson & Wales Center for Physician Assistant Studies facilitates preferred admissions review and a guaranteed interview for qualified applicants. Interested applicants must complete 39 prerequisite credits in all, 36 of which must be completed by December of the year they apply.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher
  • BCP (BIO/CHEM/PHYSICS) GPA of 3.3 or higher
  • 250 patient care hours
  • PA shadowing experience
  • Nomination by PC Health Professions Advisor
  • 36 of 39 prerequisite credits complete by December of the year they apply
    • 8 credits Biology w/ labs
    • 8 credits Chemistry w/ labs
    • 3-4 credits Microbiology
    • 3-4 credits Genetics
    • 8 credits Anatomy & Physiology
    • 6 credits Behavioral Science (psychology and sociology preferred)
    • 3 credits Math (statistics preferred)

Qualified candidates must work in collaboration with the Health Professions Advisor to be nominated under this agreement. Applications must be submitted through CASPA by September 1st of the application cycle.

NYITCOM Early Admission Program

Our agreement with New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM) affords qualified Providence College students the opportunity for an early interview and consideration for admission. This agreement is for entrance to both NYITCOM campuses – Jonesboro, Arkansas and Old Westbury, New York.

Students interested in this agreement must apply to medical school after the completion of their junior year for the opportunity to interview in early fall of their senior year and must meet the following criteria:

  • Overall GPA of 3.5
  • MCAT taken no later than June 30th preceding their senior year and with a score equal to or above the mean MCAT for NYIT of the year they began their undergraduate schooling.
  • Completion of the following courses
    • 8 credits of biology (course and lab)
    • 8 hours of inorganic and 8 hours of organic chemistry (course and lab)
    • 8 hours of physics (course and lab)
    • 6 hours of English
  • With no grade below a “C” in above courses
  • A favorable recommendation from the Health Professions Advisory Committee.

This agreement does not guarantee admission for students who are granted an early interview.
