Partnerships with Professional Schools

Providence College has established partnerships and articulation agreements with esteemed professional schools in the health field. These agreements are established to benefit Providence College students and alumni in their pursuit of graduate education. 

The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University

The Early Identification Program (EIP) is a cooperative venture between The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and Providence College. This program provides selected high-achieving Rhode Island resident students early provisional admission to the medical school following the student’s graduation from Providence College. The purpose of the EIP program is to increase the opportunities for a career in medicine to residents of the state of Rhode Island.

Providence College students from Rhode Island interested in nomination for the Brown University EIP program should notify the Health Professions Advisor during their sophomore year. Eligible students are reviewed and invitations to apply for the Early Identification Program are granted by the Health Professions Advisory Committee.

Acceptances are offered by The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.

Johnson & Wales University College of Health & Wellness

Providence College and Johnson & Wales University have established a partnership that includes all graduate programs offered through the College of Health & Wellness. This is an expansion of our original agreement established in 2016.  

Doctor of Occupational Therapy (“OTD Program”) 

The articulation agreement between Providence College and Johnson & Wales University grants qualified Providence College students and alumni preferred admissions review and a guaranteed interview for the College of Health & Wellness OTD Program.

Eligibility Requirements:  

  • Application through OTCAS (Occupational Therapy Centralized Application Service) system submitted no later than February 15. This application should include a personal statement and three letters of recommendation. 
  • Minimum Cumulative GPA of 3.0 as calculated by the OTCAS system (no excluded grades, no weighted grades).  
  • Complete the required prerequisite courses listed below with a grade of “C” or better. The OTD program does not accept AP credits to fulfil prerequisite courses.  
    • Anatomy & Physiology (8 credit hours w/lab) 
    • Developmental Psychology (3 credit hours) 
    • Abnormal Psychology (3 credit hours) 
    • Statistics (3 credit hours) 
    • Additionally, coursework in medical terminology, physics, kinesiology, and biomechanics are recommended but NOT required.  

Master of Public Health (“MPH Program”) 

The articulation agreement between Providence College and Johnson & Wales University grants qualified Providence College students and alumni preferred admissions review for the College of Health & Wellness MPH program. JWU will reserve up to four program seats for qualified Providence College applicants. 

Eligibility Requirements: 

  • Application through SOPHAS Centralized Application Service system submitted no later than December 1. This application should include a letter of recommendation from a PC faculty member. 
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher, with no grade below a “C”. 

Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition & Dietetics (“MSCND Program”) 

The articulation agreement between Providence College and Johnson & Wales University grants qualified Providence College students and alumni preferred admissions review and a guaranteed interview for the College of Health & Wellness MSCND Program.  

Eligibility Requirements: 

  • Application through DICAS (Dietetics Inclusive Centralized Application Service) system submitted no later than April 15. This application should include a personal statement and three letters of recommendation. 
  • Minimum Cumulative GPA of 3.0 as calculated by the DICAS system (no excluded grades, no weighted grades).  
  • Complete the required prerequisite classes listed below with a minimum grade of “B” for Introduction to Human Nutrition course and a minimum grade of “C” for all other courses.  
    • Introduction to Human Nutrition (3 credit hours) 
    • Anatomy and/or Physiology (4 credit hours w/lab) 
    • General Chemistry (4 credit hours w/lab) 
    • Organic Chemistry (3-4 credit hours) 
    • Biochemistry (3-4 credit hours) 
    • General Biology (3-4 credit hours) 
    • Microbiology (4 credit hours w/lab)

    • Active ServSafe Foodservice Certification 

Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (“PA Program”)

The articulation agreement between Providence College and Johnson & Wales University grants qualified Providence College students and alumni preferred admissions review and a guaranteed interview for the College of Health & Wellness PA Program. 

Eligibility Requirements:  

  • Application through CASPA (Central Application Service for Physican Assistants) system submitted no later than September 1. This application should include a personal statement and three letters of recommendation (including a letter from a PC science faculty member). 
  • Minimum Cumulative GPA and BCP (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) GPA of 3.5 as calculated by the CASPA system (no excluded grades, no weighted grades).  
  • Complete the required prerequisite classes listed below with a grade of “C” or better. A minimum of 32 of the required 36 prerequisite credits must be completed by the end of December to be considered for June matriculation. The MSPA program does not accept CLEP or AP credits to fulfil prerequisite courses. Coursework expires after 7 years.  
    • Biology (8 credit hours w/lab)* 
    • Chemistry (8 credit hours w/lab)* 
    • Microbiology (3-4 credit hours) 
    • Genetics (3-4 credit hours) 
    • Anatomy & Physiology (8 credit hours w/lab)

  • Minimum of 250 hours of direct patient care experience (volunteer or paid) in an allopathic or osteopathic medical setting prior to application. Qualifying experiences are outlined on the JWU website.  
  • PA shadowing experience, no minimum hours required.  
  • Qualified candidates must work in collaboration with the Health Professions Advisor to be nominated under this agreement.  

*Upper level (300-400) Biology & Chemistry coursework is preferred. 

Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (“ABSN Program”) 

The articulation agreement between Providence College and Johnson & Wales University grants qualified Providence College students and alumni preferred admissions review for the College of Health & Wellness ABSN Program. 

Eligibility Requirements

  • Application through NursingCAS (Centralized Application Service for Nursing Programs) system.  
  • Minimum Cumulative GPA of 3.0 as calculated by the NursingCAS system (no excluded grades, no weighted grades).  
  • Complete the required prerequisite classes listed below with a grade of “B/80” or better. 
    • Anatomy & Physiology (8 credit hours w/lab) 
    • Chemistry (4 credit hours w/lab) 
    • Microbiology (4 credit hours w/lab)  
    • Developmental Psychology (3 credit hours) 
    • Human Nutrition (3 credit hours) 
    • Statistics (3 credit hours) 

Doctor of Physical Therapy (“DPT Program”) 

The articulation agreement between Providence College and Johnson & Wales University grants qualified Providence College students and alumni preferred admissions review for the College of Health & Wellness DPT program. JWU will reserve up to two program seats for qualified Providence College applicants.  

Eligibility Requirements:  

  • Application through PTCAS (Physical Therapy Central Application Service) system submitted no later than October 15th. This application should include PTCAS essays, program specific PTCAS essays, and PT Experience Form.  
  • Minimum Cumulative GPA of 3.0 as calculated by the PTCAS system (no excluded grades, no weighted grades).  
  • Complete the required prerequisite classes listed below with a PTCAS prerequire GPA calculation of 3.0 or better. Prerequisite credits must be completed prior to matriculation.  
    • Biology (8 credit hours w/lab) 
    • Chemistry (8 credit hours w/lab) 
    • Physics (8 credit hours w/lab) 
    • Anatomy & Physiology (8 credit hours w/lab)  
    • Psychology (3 credit hours) 
    • Statistics (3 credit hours) 
    • Additionally, coursework in kinesiology or biomechanics, and medical terminology are recommended but NOT required. 
  • Minimum of 40 verified physical therapy experience hours must be completed before application. PT experience hours must be in at least two different settings (inpatient, outpatient, acute, sub-acute, pediatric, etc.). 
New England College of Optometry – Combined Degree 3+4

This program provides a unique educational opportunity for the highly motivated student with a professional goal in optometry. It allows for completion of the B.A. or B.S. degree in biology at Providence College (3 years) and the O.D. (Doctor of Optometry) degree at New England College of Optometry (4 years) in seven years rather than the usual eight. The 3+4 pathway is contingent upon acceptance to New England College of Optometry in the student’s junior year at Providence College.

Upon successful completion of the O.D. degree at New England College of Optometry, students will be awarded a B.S. or B.A. degree from Providence College.  

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.3 or higher
  • Science/math undergraduate GPA of 3.2 or higher
  • Optometry Admissions Test (OAT) score of 320 (with no sub score below 290) or higher
  • Optometry shadowing experience

NYITCOM Early Admission Program

Our agreement with New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM) affords qualified Providence College students the opportunity for an early interview and consideration for admission. This agreement is for entrance to both NYITCOM campuses – Jonesboro, Arkansas and Old Westbury, New York.

Students interested in this agreement must apply to medical school after the completion of their junior year for the opportunity to interview in early fall of their senior year and must meet the following criteria:

  • Overall GPA of 3.5
  • MCAT taken no later than June 30th preceding their senior year and with a score equal to or above the mean MCAT for NYIT of the year they began their undergraduate schooling.
  • Completion of the following courses
    • 8 credits of biology (course and lab)
    • 8 hours of inorganic and 8 hours of organic chemistry (course and lab)
    • 8 hours of physics (course and lab)
    • 6 hours of English
  • With no grade below a “C” in above courses
  • A favorable recommendation from the Health Professions Advisory Committee.

This agreement does not guarantee admission for students who are granted an early interview.
